Woman sitting in front of a window, reading, by Max Harlynking

I have come to believe that, in the end, while visionaries and great leaders are indispensable to the growth of societies, it is that poorly defined entity to which we seldom give credit that will save us. It’s the entity for whom Aaron Copland, in the twentieth century, composed a sonorous and noble musical salute. He called his work Fanfare for the Common Man.

I’ll adjust that a bit:

Recent national and world events have reminded us that although change is an inevitable part of life, sometimes it happens at such large scale it requires a whole new set of tools to help us face the new challenges.

I believe to my very core in the imaginative potential of all people. The seed of positive imagination is in every one of us from birth. This capacity must be nurtured in everyone, across schools, across businesses, across cultures, across socio-economic boundaries — until it yields clarity of vision borne out of empathy.

We can not benefit from the opportunities that come from innovation without first developing the capacity for imaginative thinking.
